I have been working with Vizanda for almost two and a half years. Unfortunately for various reasons, that relationship is coming to an end. It’s been a very long ride, and I’ve been able to learn a lot in the process. Being involved in a startup while also working on my studies has definitely not been easy. It was like having 2 full-time jobs, and normally by the end of the day I ended up having no free time at all.

During my two and a half years at Vizanda, we’ve built several web applications that never took off. This included a data visualization tool that allows you to build charts really quickly and get insights on your data, a Chrome extension that provides quick insights for Google Analytics, and a tool that allows you to build reports and insights about your data.

I was responsible for a whole range of different jobs, including building the actual application. I did the architecture stuff, front end stuff, back end stuff, optimizations when things get slow, going into others’ code and fixing bugs. The process of building things is what I enjoy, and I’m glad that I was able to experience that at least 3 times during the whole process. Unfortunately the results weren’t satisfactory, in that we didn’t see a whole lot of usage coming from our hard work, and that was, to say the least, a little devastating.

Alas, we didn’t make it and now it’s time to part ways. I’ve been fortunate enough to find long term relationships while freelancing for at least 3 years now. But I feel like it’s time to move on, and build up my freelancing business a little more seriously now.

Coming at something resembling like a crossroad now, I’ve decided to start blogging and share my journey. Wish me luck!
